Spiced Cognac Cappuccino

Spiced cappuccino with cognac, cinnamon and nutmeg
When it’s rainy and cold outside, sometimes it’s nice to warm up with a hot winter cocktail. Today we’re stuck inside due to bad weather and can’t venture out for happy hour at our favorite restaurant. To cope with the January blues, I love to enjoy a warm cocktail from comfort of my sofa. A little spiked coffee is one of my favorite treats, like this Spiced Cappuccino. It’s quick to make and can be saved and rewarmed for later enjoyment too! The original cocktail recipe calls for an Irish cream plus ice cream, but a little bit of cognac mixed into the coffee instead is very delicious.

I like to warm up the milk mixed with a little cream, half and half works well too. It’s easiest to heat in a small saucepan or warm up for 30 seconds in the microwave. Next I use a very inexpensive hand-held milk frother to create that fluffy cappuccino foam. It’s best to use a french press for a rich flavored coffee, but any quality coffee maker works as well. Usually I add the sugar to my cup first, then pour the coffee over so that the sugar completely dissolves. Next, I pour a little of the milk into the cup and then add a 1/2 oz of the cognac. If you’re making a bigger cup or several servings, feel free to use more!

Top off the cup of coffee with more milk and scoop the milk foam into the cup last. Then sprinkle with the nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamon and any other favorite spices. The smell is absolutely lovely! Grab a book, turn on your favorite show or movie and curl up on the sofa with a blanket. It’s a wonderful way to warm up, relax and enjoy coziness of winter. Cheers!
